Easy Macramé Wedding Decor for Beginners
Big Day Macramé Wedding is where I combine all of my years of teaching, macramé instruction and wedding industry experience to show YOU how to make show-stopping macramé wedding decor for your Big Day, all without breaking the budget.
Just like you, my creativity led me and my fiancé to designing and making the decorations for our own wedding (including THAT hexagonal macramé wedding backdrop!).
Whether it be a stunning backdrop, a simple hand-fasting cord or a boho wedding veil, I’m so excited to help you see what you can create with your own hands and so I’ve compiled this list of 6 easy macramé wedding decor projects that are all suitable for even total beginners. You can get a free printable version complete with photos & tips via the box at the bottom of this page!
Let’s get started!
1. Large Macramé Backdrop
A show stopping macramé wedding backdrop truly is the DIY macramé wedding decor to beat all others. And, yes, the one I have created is beginner-friendly! Measuring 2 x 2m, and using over 500m of cord, this beautiful design is THE perfect piece under which to say your vows, wherever you might be. One of my favourite, budget macramé cords to use is this 4mm ply cord in cream for a beautiful compliment to any wedding theme.
2. Classic Macramé Wall Hanging
A classic macramé wall hanging is a gorgeous way to complement your boho wedding theme. This stunningly simple design uses only lark’s head & square knots, and is guaranteed to make your guests’ head turn, long after you walked down the aisle.
Display on a rustic wooden stick or one of my unique, personalised macramé wooden signs; once painted in your wedding colours you’ll have the ultimate piece of personalised wedding decor.
3. Elegant Macramé Chair Backs
Macramé chair backs are a super simple way to add some boho elegance to your guests’ chairs. Quick to make and using only lark’s head, spiral and square knots, these 3 designs are so versatile and can be made wider and longer very easily.
4. Rustic Macramé Table Plan / Seating Plan
This rustic macramé table plan design uses is not only super easy, but useful for your guests and beautiful too! And it can even double up as a photo wall too - just pop some polaroid cameras out and ask you guests to attach their snaps to the strands using some little wooden pegs.
You can hang your piece from a regular stick or, for that added WOW factor, why not get yourself one of my unique, personalised macramé wooden name signs, made specifically for macramé? Just paint it in your wedding colours for THE ultimate piece of personalised wedding decor.
5. Boho Macramé Wedding Veils
Relaxed yet elegant, these gorgeous boho macramé veils perfectly mix the traditional and modern. Why not add beads, feathers or dried flowers to yours for that extra special touch? Make with single twist macramé cord for a softer, delicate finish.
6. Traditional Macramé Hand Fasting Cords
Tie the knot in style with traditional macramé hand fasting cords in the colours of your choice. A variation on a 4 strand braid, these cords are super easy and quick to make and the colourway options with this macramé cord are endless!
Ready to unlock your inner creativity?
All you need is some macramé cord, one of my DIY patterns above and a good pair of scissors.
There are lots of different cords available but, for some budget options, I personally recommend this 4mm single twist or this 4mm ply*, both available on Amazon. You can even choose your colours!
